About the event
Using stitch in artwork begins with an expressive line. In this workshop students learn to loosen up and explore new territory. We will play with texture, pattern and story with simple-to-learn techniques. This is not a traditional free-motion quilting workshop.
• First we make a mess by beginning to see that line is active and reactive. There are no mistakes.
• Then, we embrace the wonky by learning to make the most of whatever occurs — accepting the imperfect and celebrating the discoveries.
• And, we think in thread by translating visual stimuli into pathways and stitching in continuous line. Students will accumulate a toolbox of techniques for seeing, interpreting and completing concept-driven work by building a stitch vocabulary and trusting the thread to tell a story.
