All Washed UP!!! by Barbara Loggins
Color Play
Color is one of the elements of design that we often take for granted.
Look at the artwork and think about what the colors are saying:
Calm? Hot? Quiet? Vibrating?
Can you identify an emotion that the colors promote?
Does it use a complementary color scheme? Triadic? Monochromatic? Split complement?
How does the interplay of colors tell the artist's intended story?

This quilt was a real adventure in color play, fitting colors from a triad into a square and from muted to bright, while relying on purchased Thai silk.

Iris Ensata

I look forward to the green of spring, especially for the brief and glorious blooms of the Japanese iris. I chose the mass of green to set off the elegance of the vintage silk blooms.

I like to create a lot of visual stimulation, the small bits of color lead your eye all over the piece, the background does not get in the way. Inspired by Paula Kovarik.

A Happy Place

This was inspired by a mosaic I'd seen. The tiny, shiny, bright colors sang to me. I used many more small pieces than I would normally. But the resulting colorful movement is exciting.

The artwork plays off the idea of a portal as an entry point or entry way, rather than the more formal door or window definition. I had been sampling Dorset Wheel patterns and thought to highlight them as playful and unexpected portals.

Ghosts of Guerneville
32 x 22
The vivid red tree trunks represent redwoods around Guerneville, CA. Stumps, remnants of the giants that were felled in the 19th century, with red stitching outlining the ghosts of those long gone trees. Ghostly loggers pose proudly on the stumps.

One small novelty bug fabric inspired the creation of an environment with depth, shadows, and light for the backdrop of a pleasant imaginary bug village where every bug life matters.
