OUTREACH

Columbia FiberArts Guild supports several outreach projects and we encourage our members to share their talents to make a difference in our community.

The following are some of the optional activities that we are involved in.

Cares NW

A Portland evaluation center for abused and neglected kids, affiliated with Legacy Foundation of Portland. This agency serves children who are taken out of their homes due to an unsafe environment. The age range served are infants to 18 years old. Quilts for Kids was a project started several years ago in conjunction with Care NW to provide a beautiful quilt for each child that enters the center. Often everything is taken away from the child for evidence and this quilt becomes more than a blanket. The children get to choose the one that speaks to them...a small step to taking back a bit of control in their lives. Kits are available at Pine Needle in Lake Oswego or use up your own stash! The also have regular work parties at the Pine Needle, please call for times. 503.635.1353

Celebrate Our Vets

We are in the process of creating bags to be used on wheel chairs and walkers that will be delivered to several Veteran Homes. It was brought to our attention that many of the residents were carrying their belongings around in torn plastic bags...What a great way to use our creativity, our stash and brighten the lives of those who have protected us.

Door to Grace

This is an agency that mentors young women who have fallen into the trappings of prostitution. We are working with our members to set up studio tours, workshops and donations. What a great opportunity to show these young women that art and creativity can change lives.

Faubion School

This is a K-5 school that is located in North Portland and it serves a varied population of children. We have had the pleasure of donating funding for art supplies so these little artists can express themselves...and do they ever! A reminder that every child should have art in their lives!

P:ear This is an agency that works with transitional street youth in Portland. We are working together to set up fabric painting workshops and create a quilt for their auction...A great way to merge our talents and make a difference.
